Donations will support the Overlake Tree Preservation Campaign and other projects with the local grassroots organization. The Western Hemlock is the Washington state tree and while these seedlings cannot replace Overlake’s mature urban forest, planting them locally will help clean the air and water. Seedlings will be for sale at various Redmond locations as long as supplies last.

Sustainable Redmond’s Overlake Tree Preservation Campaign began last year in an effort to retain healthy stands of evergreens at the former Group Health hospital site in Overlake Village. The group believes that the transit-based community to be built around a future light rail station will benefit from having portions of the existing urban forest preserved as a core neighborhood legacy.

Other interests and program areas of Sustainable Redmond include food, gardening and natural environment, alternative transportation, energy efficiency and generation, schools, businesses and government, measures: water, air and waste and personal choices.
