Workers with King County’s Wastewater Treatment Division began testing soil and groundwater conditions along a portion of the Sammamish River Trail near Idylwood Park in Redmond on June 23.

King County is conducting the work as part of the Lake Hills/Lake Sammamish Sewer Upgrade Project, which will entail replacing aging pipelines and adding new capacity to support population growth in the Redmond area. The work will enable geotechnical engineers to assess soil and groundwater conditions along the planned pipeline alignment.

Work began near Audubon Elementary School and Idylwood Beach Park and will continue alongside the Sammamish River Trail through late July.

Pedestrians, cyclists and drivers are asked to use caution when traveling through the area and watch for workers and equipment. Flaggers will be present during busy travel times.

The Lake Hills/Lake Sammamish Sewer Upgrade Project will entail replacing 21,000 feet of pipeline installed 45-60 years ago, to protect public health and water quality by ensuring reliable service.

Construction is expected to begin in 2018. King County’s project team will be working closely with people who live, work and play in the area throughout the project.
