Juniors and seniors in the Entrepreneurship class at Redmond High School (RHS) have formed a Junior Achievement company called Royal CooKing Publications and will sell a cookbook with recipes from popular Eastside restaurants.
The price of the cookbook isn’t finalized, but students said it will be in the $10-$15 range and they’re taking names of those who’d like to pre-order the book.
Their goal is to offer 90 recipes from such restaurants as Purple Cafe and Wine Bar, Third Floor Fish Cafe and 08 Seafood Grill & Twisted Cork Wine Bar.
An international cookbook sold by entrepreneurship students in 2006 was well-received, so the current class went back to that idea and brainstormed on ways to make this product new and appealing, said Nick Funaro.
“We ran around to all the grocery stores and asked, ‘What would you like to see in the book? What are your favorite restaurants?’ We talked to about 200 people,” said Meg Leishman.
Nearby restaurants were mentioned most often, so the students decided to spotlight those. The cookbook will have a color cover and be spiral-bound, said Laura Wang, and each featured restaurant will get a black-and-white photo.
The book will be organized with categories such as appetizers and main courses and there will be a cross-reference in the back of book, listing the locations of the corresponding restaurants. Restaurant owners can also buy ads in the book to help offset production costs.
An initial run of 500 books will be produced and the students hope they’ll sell out and print more. If you’d like to pre-order the book or have a business that would like to help the students, call RHS at (425) 498-7156 or e-mail s-jahall@lwsd.org.
