RUTH SHRADER
Ruth Margaret Shrader of Redmond passed away Sunday, July 27 at Overlake Hospital Medical Center in Bellevue. She was 84.
Shrader was born July 3, 1924 in New York, New York. She was raised in Queens where she graduated from Jackson High School in 1940. After high school and throughout World War II she worked as a telephone operator in New York City.
On June 9, 1945 she married Robert Cassell in Huntington, New York. They lived in Huntington and Long Island until 1950 when they moved to Sand Point, Idaho.
In 1952 they moved to Spokane, Washington and in 1966 they settled in Bellevue, Washington. In 1998, she moved to Redmond to be closer to her daughter.
In 1965 she became a sales agent for AAA of Washington. Her calling with AAA spanned three decades. She was known for her tenacious work ethic and sense of company loyalty. Always ahead of her time; she was a career woman before many others.
Shrader was an avid card player and was an active member of Eastside Bridge Club. She enjoyed gardening, birds, and socializing over a well prepared meal. Even in her later years, Shrader embraced the latest technology; taking on and learning computer technology beyond the level of her peers and sometimes her children. Above all, Shrader enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Her family remembers her as a classy, strong, beautiful and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who possessed a keen wit, loving smile and tender heart. She will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her loving children, Mark Cassell of Snohomish, Brian Cassell of Renton, Kristine Morimoto of Redmond, and Robert Cassell of Lower Lake, California; brother, Donald Beck of Dayton, Ohio; six grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one more on the way. She is also missed by a host of extended family members and friends.
