Redwood Theatre and Woodinville Repertory Theatre will present “Broadway Anthems, a Cabaret with Timothy Glynn,” at 8 p.m. Friday, June 27. The performance is at Woodinville Repertory Theatre’s Little Theatre at Wellington Hills Golf Course, 7026 240th St. SE, Woodinville.
Glynn has appeared in Seattle and on the Eastside at the 5th Avenue Theatre, Village Theatre and Civic Light Opera. Most recently, he starred as Pan in ArtsWest’s Seattle premiere of “Batboy, the Musical,” and in Lyric Light Opera’s “Brigadoon.”
Redwood Theatre (www.redwoodtheatre.org) has provided entertainment and performance opportunities to Redmond and neighboring communities since 1983. Its mission is to bring local audiences high-quality, close-to-home, live theater at a reasonable price, as well as offering challenging roles for cast, crew and theatrical staff members at all levels of experience.
Woodinville Repertory Theatre (www.woodinvillerep.org) was founded in 1998 by Peg Phillips of TV’s “Northern Exposure.” While based in Woodinville, it strives to appeal to audiences across Puget Sound.
Although Redwood’s “home stage” is in the auditorium at the Redmond Senior Center, “combining resources with Woodinville Repertory Theatre allows us to produce more than the current schedule at the senior center allows,” explained Roy Arauz, vice president of Redwood Theatre’s board of directors.
And Redwood continues to grow and thrive, he noted. Its latest production, “Chess,” was “a resounding success, breaking our own attendance and income records, even when you factor in inflation. We are very excited about that, especially because most were first-time patrons to the theatre,” said Arauz.
Grants from the City of Redmond and 4Culture will support Redwood’s community outreach efforts. A six-week “Introduction to Stage Management” class will be offered this fall and short courses on theatrical lighting, costuming and make-up are planned for next winter and spring.
Another goal is to offer signing for the hearing-impaired during at least one performance of each production.
On Sunday, July 29, a potluck picnic will allow Redwood Theatre participants and patrons a chance to get better acquainted. The organization will supply burgers and hot dogs at the event, which will also feature Redwood Theatre Academy Awards for best production and performances. The picnic will take place at a local park, still to be confirmed.
Proceeds from the “Broadway Anthems” show will benefit Redwood Theatre and Woodinville Repertory Theatre, which are non-profit, 501(c)3 organizations.
