Three-time champion and sixth-year competitor Hancock’s Bakery will take on cross-town rival Universal Avionics, who are moving on to the final four in only their second year of the competition.

The winner of that bracket will go on to face the survivor of the Lake Washington Physical Therapy — Xtreme Consulting Group contest. Lake Washington PT of Kirkland’s Ben Wobker helped create the tournament in 2010 and his team has been a steady competitor, but Kirkland rival and two-year veteran Xtreme Consulting Group has been coming on strong this year, this week bringing in the most food ever collected in a single week with more than 3,500 pounds.

In the third week of the contest, Hancock’s Bakery defeated JJ Mahoney’s Irish Pub, Xtreme Consulting Group knocked out last year’s champion Redmond Physical Therapy and Lake Washington Physical Therapy beat TJ Maxx of Bellevue/Factoria. In the closest contest of the week, Universal Avionics squeaked past Dace’s Rock ‘n’ More Music Academy of Redmond and Maple Valley.

The elite eight teams collected 6,586 pounds of food and $1,174, bringing the tournament total so far to more than 20,000 pounds of food and over $3,000.

The drive is patterned after the famous national spring college basketball tournament, matching businesses in weekly competitions to see which can bring in the most food. Teams are bracketed together in pairs and one winner from each two-member bracket advances to the following week. The winner will be announced April 3.
