Redmond’s Budgeting by Priorities process begins anew; community meeting to be held March 1

The City of Redmond is hosting a community meeting to begin the budgeting process for the 2011/2012 biennial budget. The meeting will be held on Monday, March 1 from 7-8:30pm in the Redmond City Hall Council Chambers, 15670 NE 85th Street.

At the meeting, Mayor John Marchione and city staff will give a brief presentation about the Budgeting by Priorities process and results achieved from the process used in 2008. The majority of the meeting will survey participants, using instant electronic voting technology, on their thoughts about city programs and services.

“Our Budgeting by Priorities process worked very well for our first time through in 2008,” stated Marchione. “This year, we can take what we learned and develop a City budget that reflects our citizen priorities within this difficult economic environment. While this will be a challenging budget, our emphasis on these priorities will help us focus our resources to deliver the services most important to the community.”

A second community meeting will follow in May, where citizens will be asked to propose and prioritize programs and services they want to see continued or developed for 2011/2012.
