Redmond students receive National Merit scholarships

Four students from Redmond have received college-sponsored National Merit Scholarships.

Redmond residents Edward Cordell and Jessica Jin from the International Community School in Kirkland and Emily Moore from the Lakeside School in Seattle as well as Sammamish resident Gabriel Wang from The Bear Creek School in Redmond are among more than 2,000 additional National Merit Scholarship winners who join more than 2,500 other college-sponsored award recipients who were announced in late May.

College-sponsored awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.

Cordell will attend Rice University in Texas with the probable career field of chemical engineering. Jin will attend Claremont McKenna College in California with the intent to study law. Moore is enrolled at Emory College in Georgia and intends to study history. Wang will attend Rice University as well and plans to study biotechnology.
