The City of Redmond was selected as one of America’s Promise Alliance’s (APA) 100 Best Communities for Young People.

According to the APA website, the annual national competition is presented by ING and recognizes communities that make the effort to reduce dropout rates and provide support and services for their youth. Winners are intended to represent the United States as a whole and range every year from small towns and big cities to mobile home communities and school districts.

All of this year’s winners will receive a $2,500 grant that can be used to help fund a local program or service within certain parameters or be used for a celebration event.

This is the second time Redmond has earned the 100 Best Communities — the last time being in 2007.

Ken Wong, teen programs and 50+ administrator for the City of Redmond, said the city was selected from more than 300 applicants.

Redmond is one of five Washington communities to be selected. The other four are Bellevue, the greater Spokane area, Lakewood and Prosser.
