Redmond seeking public input on urban neighborhood planning

The City of Redmond, along with the Growing Transit Communities partnership, is seeking ideas from the public about what makes urban neighborhoods most appealing as places to live, work, learn and play.

The City of Redmond, along with the Growing Transit Communities partnership, is seeking ideas from the public about what makes urban neighborhoods most appealing as places to live, work, learn and play.

New urban neighborhoods with a mix of high-density housing, retail, employment, parks and trails and other uses will emerge around high-capacity transit stations in the coming years in the central Puget Sound region. In Redmond’s Overlake neighborhood, light rail will be operating by 2023.

What characteristics would make urban neighborhoods in downtown and Overlake most vibrant and livable for all ages? What would an ideal urban neighborhood look like and what features are most important?

The city is asking people to weigh in on an online survey regarding what would make neighborhoods around light rail transit in Redmond most appealing, such as incorporating elements that provide convenient shopping and services, recreation opportunities and housing for families.

The survey can be found at www.surveymonkey.com/s/VibrantNeighborhoods.

The City of Redmond will incorporate ideas gathered from the survey as part of planning and implementation efforts now underway in anticipation of light rail on the Eastside. The survey will be available through September.
