According to the Redmond Police Department, officers are distributing fliers with the following information on vehicles with valuable items left inside:
“Don’t let criminals run away with your belongings.
“Over the past year, the City of Redmond has experienced an increased amount of property crimes, including vehicle prowls. Items frequently taken during these incidents include small electronics, purses, money, tools, credit cards, checks etc. In an effort to help prevent further incidents, the Redmond Police Department is conducting extra vehicle and foot patrols in areas commonly associated with crimes of this nature.
“You are receiving this letter because your vehicle was identified as having one or more of the above listed items left inside. Whether your vehicle is locked or not, criminals will find a way to get inside. Most car prowls take only a few moments to occur; however the damage done to your vehicle is often inconvenient and expensive to repair.
“Do your part to avoid becoming a victim. Take anything of value that isn’t attached to your vehicle with you. Also record the serial number for your valuables to assist the police with locating your property should you have an item stolen.”
