The Redmond Historical Society will meet on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center at 16600 N.E. 80 St.

Steven Williams will be presenting a “History of Coal Mining.” He will focus on 100 years of local coal mining.

In 1888 there were 20 mules and 200 men employed locally. Exporting coal to San Francisco turned Seattle into a dominant seaport. Attendees can learn what is underneath a mountain that is older than Rainier.

The upcoming program is made possible by Eastside Heritage Center.
