In the United States, one high school athlete dies every three days to sudden cardiac arrest, often with no symptoms until death.

In the United States, one high school athlete dies every three days to sudden cardiac arrest, often with no symptoms until death.

More than half of these young students die from an undetected heart condition.

The best way to detect these heart conditions is through a heart screening using a comprehensive family health history, ECG (electrical tests) and echocardiograms (ultrasounds) of the heart.

On Oct. 5, the Nick of Time Foundation will offer free heart screens in the Redmond High School (RHS) gym, located at 17272 N.E. 104th, for up to 600 students and athletes (ages 12-24) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Although this event will be at RHS, it is open to all youth regardless of enrollment.

For more information and screening forms, visit www.nickoftimefoundation.org. Screening forms are also available at the RHS main office.

For students and athletes who do not attend RHS, email appt@nickoftimefoundation.org and include the following information:

• Full name (first, last).
• Age and gender.
• Parent’s name, email address and contact phone number.
