Ronan Delisle, a 16-year-old Redmond resident, has been chosen to participate in “Experience: The Band” at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13 at Seattle’s Experience Music Project/Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame (EMP/SFM). The showcase is free and open to the public.
More than 50 students from the Seattle area auditioned for this showcase and 15 were selected. The program is a partnership between EMP/SFM and the Berklee College of Music’s City Music program, placing special focus on rock and jazz, but also incorporating other styles of music from rhythm and blues to punk.
In its second year, “Experience: The Band” gives local youth valuable music-related resources and opportunities. Students who participate are eligible for scholarship consideration to attend Berklee College of Music’s five-week summer performance program, as well as full-tuition scholarships to Berklee College of Music in Boston. Although financial need is not a requirement for admission to “Experience: The Band,” priority is given to applicants who meet need-based financial parameters.
Delisle, who attends Inglemoor High School in Kenmore, is a guitarist and bassist. A fan of jazz and funk-rock, he especially enjoys the “Stadium Arcadium” album by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and cites other influences such as John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Jimi Hendrix and John Frusciante.
EMP/SFM is located at 325 5th Ave. N. in Seattle. For more information, call (206) 770-2702 or visit www.empsfm.org.
