Redmond Fire Department (RFD) units responded to a four-acre brush fire and two structure blazes over the weekend.
All three non-injury fires are possibly fireworks related and are still under investigation, according to RFD Battalion Chief Doug Kammerzell.
At approximately 6 p.m. on July 4, about four RFD crews of 20 firefighters began battling the four-acre blaze behind Emily Dickinson Elementary School on Union Hill. It took them about four hours to extinguish the blaze, and two firefighters stayed overnight at the site and kept a hose line set in case there were any flareups, which didn’t occur.
The two house fires occurred at about 7 a.m. on July 4 and at 4 a.m. on July 5 in the Amesbury neighborhood and Ames Lake area, respectively.
The Amesbury fire started on the roof and the Ames Lake homeowner saw flames coming from under the house, said Kammerzell, who noted that both fires were extinguished soon after RFD crews arrived.
