Redmond-based Meito Shodo-Kai Calligraphy Association to hold exhibition Oct. 8-10

The Meito Shodo-Kai Calligraphy Association of Redmond will hold an exhibition in the Olympic Room at the Seattle Center from Oct. 8-10.

The Meito Shodo-Kai Calligraphy Association of Redmond will hold an exhibition in the Olympic Room at the Seattle Center from Oct. 8-10.

The association is the largest Japanese calligraphy association in the United States with more than one hundred members, many of which have received top awards at prestigious calligraphy competitions in the states and Japan.

More than 150 calligraphy works by students, including works by school-age members will be displayed at the exhibition. Yoshiyasu Fujii, the master calligrapher and the head of Meito Shodo-Kai will be giving a demonstration on Saturday from 2-3 p.m.

Sponsoring organizations include the Consulate General of Japan at Seattle, Seattle Center, Yamato Transport USA and Mainichi Newspapers of Japan.

The entire event is free and open to the public.

The event will be Oct. 8 from noon to 4 p.m. with the opening ceremony at 1 p.m. and demonstration at 2 p.m. On Oct. 9, the event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 10.
