Redmod High’s Jillian Roels named runner up for 2012 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

Jillian Roels, a senior at Redmond High School (RHS), has been named one of the top runners-up in The 2012 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards in Washington.

Jillian Roels, a senior at Redmond High School (RHS), has been named one of the top runners-up in the 2012 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards in Washington.

Roels will receive an engraved bronze Distinguished Finalist medallion to commemorate this prestigious award. She is recognized for her work in founding “Spark Your Heart,” an organization dedicated to creating and inspiring random acts of kindness. Roels has sponsored hat drives for “Hats Off for Cancer,” implemented letter campaigns for the troops and partnered with a local hospital to raise funds for uncompensated care.

Based on the number of community service hours in her application, Roels has also qualified for the President’s Volunteer Service Award. This award recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country. She received an award certificate and a letter from President Barack Obama.
