A rally with local speakers explaining the local impacts of a government shutdown and a budget that protect special interest tax loopholes is set for 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Heritage Park at 111 Waverly Way in Kirkland.

The park is the dividing line between Sen. Andy Hill and Sen. Rodney Tom’s districts and the rally is calling on the two senators to put funding for kids and communities before ideology and special interest tax loopholes and to quickly pass a budget and avoid a government shutdown.

Hundreds of local voters and members of the more than 160 organizations that comprise the Our Economic Future Coalition will be present. There will be speeches from community leaders from education, faith, healthcare and senior services organizations as well.

Kirkland is home to the legislative districts of both Hill, chief budget negotiator for the Senate Majority Caucus, and Tom, Majority leader for the Senate Majority Caucuses.
