R-TRIP reduces one million trips; alternative commute program offers incentives and rewards

Can you imagine the impact of an additional one million vehicles on the road? Thanks to Redmond residents and employees, you don’t have to. If you are one of the nearly 15,000 Redmond residents or employees using alternative commutes and logging them on GOrtrip.com, you have contributed to reducing one million vehicle trips in Redmond since the program launched in May 2008. Thanks a million, Redmond!

R-TRIP is the Redmond Trip Resource and Incentive Program. The program’s online commute management system, GOrtrip.com, allows users to log their alternative commutes when they travel to work by any means except driving alone, such as biking, walking, carpooling, vanpooling or taking the bus. The system then calculates statistics for vehicle trips saved, Co2 reduced, fuel saved and miles of alternative commutes logged. Statistics can be viewed by the individual user, by employer or system-wide. As of Oct. 20, the system-wide statistics include:

• 15,001 GOrtrip.com users

• 1,003,081 vehicles trips saved

• 1,278,297 gallons of fuel saved

• 29,784,311 miles of alternative commutes logged (equal to circling the earth 1,198 times!)

New users to R-TRIP can earn a one-time $50 incentive for participating in 50 alternative commutes. Any Redmond resident or employee can try the bus for free for one month and receive vanpool subsidies, in addition to participating in monthly drawings and accessing many online resources.
