The Redmond High boys’ basketball team fell to the Class 3A Juanita Rebels 54-41 in a nonleague season opener Tuesday night at Juanita High School.
For the Mustangs, sophomore guard Jason Harrington led the team with 13 points, followed by Connor Floan with eight. Josh Bircher and Alex Whitaker scored six apiece.
The Mustangs will start their 4A Kingco season this Tuesday at home against Issaquah. Tipoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
Lady Stangs beaten by buzzer-beater
The Redmond High girls’ team’s season opener started sweet but ended on a sour note as Juanita hit a last-second layup to outlast the Mustangs 58-56 in a nonleague contest Tuesday night at home.
The Stangs held a commanding 47-32 lead late in the third quarter before the Rebels came charging back with a 22-2 run to set up their last-second heroics.
For the Mustangs, senior captain Chandler Jones led all scorers with 23, followed by Katie Whitaker with 11.
Redmond plays Issaquah next Wednesday at home at 7:30 p.m. in its 4A Kingco opener.
