The Redmond Pool at Hartman Park continues to undergo repairs and the building is close to meeting the City of Redmond’s building safety standards.

To date the city has completed the following repairs:

• Heating and air-conditioning systems are overhauled and cleaned

• Leaking pipes and valves are replaced

• Deck drains are clear

• Electrical wiring and plumbing fixtures are replaced

• Sewer connection is replaced

• Roof is repaired

• Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements are complete

The selection of the new pool operator is on schedule, with a decision due by the end of August.

“Once an operator is selected, they will begin their work hiring staff and developing program schedules,” stated Mark Hickok, Parks and Recreation Business Operations Manager. “In the meantime, the city is busy completing the rest of the repairs.”

Improvements are still necessary before the building and pool are safe to reopen. These include complying with the Federal Anti-entrapment drain law, replacing all pool filters, improving the anti-slip floor coating and replacing the diving board hardware.

“The city’s goal has always been to reopen the pool as soon as it is safely possible,” stated Hickok. “I cannot yet give a specific date, but we definitely see light at the end of the tunnel.”

The Redmond High School (RHS) girls’ swim team, which practices and competes at the Redmond Pool during the fall, is currently practicing at the outdoor Kingsgate Monarch Pool in Kirkland while the Redmond Pool is closed for repairs.

“It is an outdoor facility, but luckily the weather is cooperating,” said RHS athletic director John Appelgate.

Appelgate said the team’s season opener against Issaquah on Sept. 14, originally scheduled at the Redmond Pool, has been moved to Boehm Pool in Issaquah.

“Hopefully the Redmond Pool will be available before we need to make more adjustments,” Appelgate said.
