A toddler shoe found Thursday evening in Bellevue near where a 2-year-old Redmond boy was reported missing is not the shoe of Sky Metalwala, according to Bellevue police.

“It doesn’t appear to be the right size,” Bellevue Police Maj. Mike Johnson said at a press conference Friday morning. “The dogs didn’t indicate any scent leading away from that area of the street. At this point, anyway, that looks like a dead end.”

Police, along with the help of 150 local, county, state and federal investigators, continue to search every angle as more than 300 tips have poured in concerning this bizarre case.

The boy’s mother, Julia Biryukova, who reported Sky missing after she ran out of gas Sunday morning near the 2400 block of 11th Avenue Northeast, has not talked to investigators since Sunday night, Johnson said.

Johnson made a public plea to Biryukova to come forward and speak with investigators and have gotten no response. Investigators also made a phone call to Biryukova and have not gotten a call back, Johnson said.

Biryukova has not made any public pleas for the community to help find her son and has not made any inquires with police about the status of the investigation, Johnson said.

Sky reportedly went missing Sunday morning in Bellevue when Biryukova’s Acura Integra ran out of gas. She left Sky in the car and took her 4-year-old daughter with her to a gas station, where she called a friend to pick her up. When they returned to the car, the boy was gone, Biryukova said.

Police found that the car had enough gas in it to run for a significant amount of time, and technicians test drove it at around midnight last night and “the vehicle operated just fine,” Johnson said.

Biryukova still has not been named a suspect or a person of interest in the case, Johnson said. Biryukova has answered investigators’ questions through an attorney and has declined requests to take a polygraph exam. Investigators haven’t spoken to her since the night of the boy’s disappearance.

Police searched Biryukova’s downtown Redmond apartment and found that Biryukova had numerous pictures of the 4-year-old girl on her Facebook page and in the home, but no pictures of the boy.

Experts have interviewed Sky’s 4-year-old sister, a talk Johnson called “frustrating.” He said they received very few answers to their questions, but the daughter did confirm that Sky was in the car that morning wrapped in a blanket.

Johnson reiterated that investigators believe the boy has not been taken out of the state, but they continue to search for some evidence that points to a suspect.

“At this point, we don’t have it,” Johnson said.

The boy’s disappearance comes at the height of a custody fight between Biryukova and the boy’s father Solomon Metalwala, who have both accused each other of posing a threat to their children, according to court documents.

Solomon, who lives in Kirkland and plans to post flyers around the Eastside this weekend in hopes that someone might help him figure out what happened to his missing son, took a second polygraph on Thursday after his first one was deemed inconclusive. But Johnson declined to release the results of the second lie-detector test.

Solomon told KOMO radio on Thursday that he cannot trust his wife and he is afraid she will hurt their son.”

Julia wants to hurt me,” he told the radio station. “She knows how much I love my kids and tried to make me suffer throughout this dissolution, divorce.”
