The Overlake Owls’ baseball team couldn’t keep its late season dominance going during the playoffs.

Seattle Christian third baseman Jordan Hibbard single-handedly knocked out the surging Owls as the Warriors beat Overlake, 5-2, in a loser-out 1A Tri-Districts playoff game last Saturday at Kennedy High School in Burien.

Overlake put two quick runs on the board in the first inning, but from then on failed to score as Hibbard tore up Overlake pitching. Hibbard blasted a home run and an RBI double in the third and fifth innings respectively as part of a 2 for 3, five-RBI performance that sent the Owls packing.

Warrior starter Eric Bateman pitched a complete game six-hitter, striking out nine and walking five, while Overlake’s Michael Curtis took the loss, giving up five earned runs in five innings while racking up eight strikeouts.

Overlak won its last two games of the regular season by a combined 32-0 score, but couldn’t shut down the Warriors in the district playoffs. The Owls, who finished second in the league to Bellevue Christian despite finishing with identical league records, finished the year at 6-3 in league play and 11-5 overall.
