Norman Rockwell Elementary is sponsoring a child through Sparrow Clubs, which provides financial and emotional support for critically ill children and their families. It also empowers young people to help a child through charitable service experiences.

According to Norman Rockwell instructor Mary Kay Weinmeister, the school is sponsoring a 2-year-old boy named Jacobi H. He had a malignant tumor removed from his brain in August and is currently undergoing chemotherapy while living at Ronald McDonald House in Seattle with his family during his treatment at Children’s Hospital.

“We are hoping to help Jacobi and his family by raising funds for their costly medical expenses and providing them with our support throughout Jacobi’s treatment,” Weinmeister wrote in an email.

People can help Jacobi by donating to his fund through the school’s PTA, buying a T-shirt or bracelet or by participating in their first fund-raiser “Parent’s Night Out” on March 8. For more information, visit http://www.lwsd.org/school/rockwell/ptsa.

“The family enjoyed meeting the children, teachers and families at Rockwell Elementary during our assembly on Feb. 21. They want to thank everyone for making their lives brighter knowing that people are helping — not because they have to but because they want to,” Weinmeister wrote. “All those involved in the gift of giving — whether it be time, energy, money or love — is extremely appreciated.”
