Stinky Spoke ride set for Jan. 17

For the second year in a row, cyclists in the Stinky Weather Poker Run (a.k.a. the Stinky Spoke) will take on the muddy terrain of the north Eastside on Saturday, Jan. 17.

And it’s all to benefit children and adults with physical or developmental disabilities in the Puget Sound area.

The event, which begins at 9:30 a.m., starts and ends at the Redhook Brewery in Woodinville. The 16-mile loop takes cyclists on the Puget Power Line trail, through Farrel-McWhirter Park and the Tolt Pipeline trail.

There are five stops for participants to gather cards (and sometimes coffee and cocoa) hoping for the best poker hand.

The Stinky Spoke has earned a reputation for working with local retailers and businesses to get fabulous prizes for winning poker hands and a “bag o’ schwag” for all participants.

This year, look for the REAL “Stinky Bike” to be awarded for the WORST poker hand. Assembled by Recycled Cycles in Seattle, the bike has been put together with used spare parts and guarantees to be a coveted annual trophy!

Proceeds from the event benefit the Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center. Little Bit provides therapeutic horseback riding to children and adults with physical or developmental disabilities who live in the Puget Sound area. These programs improve physical health, relax tight muscles, increase balance, build muscle strength, sharpen hand/eye coordination, improve social skills, and helps riders gain a sense of control and self-confidence.

Those interested in participating can register at www.stinkyspoke.org, or show up at Redhook Brewery on the day of the event.

Fee is $30 pre-registered, or $35 on the day of the event.
