Walk a Mile in My Shoes, a fundraiser for Redmond-based Pushing Boundaries, is encouraging people on the Eastside and the greater Puget Sound area to get up and walk all month through Aug. 28.
Pushing Boundaries is a nonprofit that specializes in exercise-based therapy for individuals with spinal cord injuries, degenerative illnesses, multiple sclerosis or other conditions that may limit their movement such as a stroke. Walk a Mile will raise money to cover the cost of treatment for those who cannot afford to it.
The fundraiser is a monthlong walk-a-thon. Participants raise money by getting sponsors to pledge money for each mile they walk for the month of August or by donating a flat pledge.
Walk a Mile will end on Aug. 28 with a “Final Mile” celebration at Bellevue Downtown Park at 10201 NE Fourth St. The celebration will begin at 11 a.m. and is free.
This is the fundraiser’s second year. Last year, more than $28,000 was raised in one month. People can register to participate in teams of 10 or individually at www.pushing-boundaries.org.
