City of Redmond Mayor John Marchione has announced the appointment of Mellody Matthes as the new human resources director for the city.
Matthes currently serves as the assistant superintendent of the Tukwila School District and has worked in the field of education for more than 25 years. She has a broad range of experience in human resources, which includes, labor relations, contract negotiations, as well as compensation and classification reviews.
“It is a privilege to have the opportunity to work in Redmond and be part of Mayor Marchione’s team and support the city’s vision in offering excellent human resources services,” said Matthes.
Marchione added, “Mellody brings hands-on experience to head our human resources department. Her well-rounded background makes her an excellent director for our executive team and I look forward to her professional leadership investment to the City of Redmond employees.”
Matthes is a graduate of Washington State University with a doctoral degree in educational leadership, master’s degree in educational administration and a bachelor’s degree in speech and drama. She is a member of numerous professional associations, including the Washington Association of School Administrators, Washington Employee Relations Network and the City of Tukwila Diversity and Equity Commission. In addition, Matthes received the Oak Harbor School District Administrator of the Year award while serving as the executive director of human resources.
Matthes was confirmed by Redmond City Council on Dec. 3 and will start work on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014.
