Lake Washington School District’s Math Adoption Committee — made up of teachers, administrators, parents and community members — is seeking input on middle school math curricula.
Information about the programs will be shared at a parent and community information meeting from 6-7 p.m. tonight in the Redmond Middle School commons. Parents and community members will have an opportunity to provide feedback on each program.
After reviewing math instructional materials for grades six through eight in the fall, the committee narrowed the selection to four math programs to consider for adoption. The math programs being considered are:
• Big Ideas Math
• Core Focus on Math
• Glencoe Math
• Math in Focus 6-8
Parents and community members may also review each math program and provide input online. Instructions for how to access the programs can be found at the top of a survey that can be accessed using this link: http://survey.k12insight.com/survey.aspx?k=RQsWYVTsQSXQsPsPsP&lang=0&data=
Survey responses are anonymous and will be considered by the Math Adoption Committee when making a recommendation about the adoption of materials. Over the past month, teams of teachers have been piloting materials from these programs in their classrooms. During the pilot process, teachers are gathering information about the usability of the materials. They are also collecting feedback from students. The committee is scheduled to make this recommendation in late March.
The Lake Washington School Board will consider this recommendation and make a decision about materials on June 6.
