Margaret Harris — who was in a car crash last month that killed her 68-year-old husband Steven Harris and 16-year-old Taylor Griffith — has been released from the intensive care unit at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
She has been transferred to a rehabilitation facility for further recovery.
On Aug. 24, Steven was driving a Ford Explorer, which collided with a pickup truck driven by Griffith along Redmond-Fall City Road at 244th Avenue Northeast, according to a previous report. The pickup continued eastbound in the westbound lanes and struck a Mercedes and rolled over on its side in both lanes. Both Steven and Griffith died at the scene. The 68-year-old driver of the Mercedes was uninjured.
After the accident Margaret was transported to Harborview.
Steven was a former police chief for the Redmond Police Department (RPD). Funeral services for Steven will be at 1 p.m. on Oct. 11 at Washington Cathedral, located at 12300 Woodinville-Redmond Rd. N.E. in Redmond.
According to RPD, the Harris family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Steven’s name to the Redmond Police Benevolent Fund or Ducks Unlimited.
For those who would like to donate to the benevolent fund, which supports RPD employees and their families during times of need, checks can be made payable to Redmond Police Benevolent Fund and sent to Redmond Police Benevolent Fund, c/o Redmond Police Department, Shawn Mary Fitzpatrick, 8701 160th Ave. N.E., Redmond, WA 98052.
Ducks Unlimited, which RPD said was near and dear to Steven, protects endangered waterfowl habitats throughout North America. To donate in memory of Steven, visit www.ducks.org.
