LWSD students place at ‘Math is Cool’ competition

Five teams from Lake Washington School District (LWSD) — two from Evergreen Middle School (EMS), two from Redmond Middle School (RMS) and one from International Community School (ICS) — recently competed in the Math is Cool Master Competition in Moses Lake.

Five teams from Lake Washington School District (LWSD) — two from Evergreen Middle School (EMS), two from Redmond Middle School (RMS) and one from International Community School (ICS) — recently competed in the Math is Cool Master Competition in Moses Lake.

The RMS eighth-grade team of Lucy Jiang, Daniel Liu, Virginia Qian, and Claire Qu took second place and the seventh grade team Matthew He, Kenny Ma, Pranav Vaid and Rene Yu took third place in the Elite Division.

The ICS team of sophomores Alex Maicaneanu, Ariana Manu and Steven Li and freshman Kartik Iyer took first place in Division I.

In addition to team awards, seven students took home individual awards:

RMS

Seventh-grader Rene Yu, second place, algebra 1 division; eighth-grader Daniel Liu, second place, geometry division and eighth-grader Virginia Qian, third place, geometry division

EMS

Seventh-grader Martin Shi, seventh place, algebra 1 division and seventh-grader Kevin Cai (EMS), eighth place, algebra 1 division

ICS

Freshman Kartik Iyer, second place, algebra 2 division and sophomore Steven Li, third place, algebra 2 division
