The Lake Washington School District (LWSD) is accepting applications for its Lunch Buddy program.

“Spending lunchtime and recess with a second grade child is really fun and helps to put my day into perspective,” said longtime Lunch Buddy Jay Henwood. “You tend to forget about your own stresses when you’re playing with kids at a school.”

Research shows that a positive relationship with a caring adult can greatly enhance a child’s self-esteem and longterm success. Students in mentoring relationships are less likely to miss school, engage in school violence or experiment with drugs. Mentored students are also more likely to have higher grade point averages and have more positive relationships with family and peers.
