Lake Washington School District (LWSD) bells will ring on the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 1, marking the beginning of the 2010-11 school year. Requests have come in from local schools that need volunteers for reading and math support, classroom help, lunch buddies, secondary school mentors and after-school study programs.
LINKS (Looking Into the Needs of Kids and Schools) places caring adult community members in LWSD schools throughout Redmond, Kirkland and Sammamish. Volunteers can offer as little as one hour a week, to help students succeed.
Multiple volunteer orientation sessions for LINKS are scheduled in the coming months. The first meetings are at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8 and at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16 at the LWSD Resource Center, 16250 NE 74th St., in Redmond Town Center.

The LINKS program is funded by the Lake Washington Schools Foundation.
