Trained forest stewards will again be hosting the Last Saturday volunteer events in Redmond parks to continue restoration efforts of the Green Redmond Partnership.
All Last Saturday events are from 9 a.m. to noon on the last Saturday of the month from April through October. June’s event will be held at Redmond’s Watershed Preserve at 21760 Novelty Hill Rd. on June 29.
The Green Redmond Partnership, initiated in 2009, has a goal of bringing 1,035 acres of forested parkland into active management over a 20-year period. Volunteers are needed to help remove non-native, invasive plants and prepare areas for fall plantings.
No experience is necessary and gloves, tools and other materials are provided. It is important to dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes. All ages are welcome, although all volunteers younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult or bring a signed waiver (available at www.greenredmond.org, on the volunteer page). An RSVP at the same website is appreciated and helps organizers provide adequate tools and supplies.
The remaining 2013 Last Saturday scheduled is:
- July 27 – Westside Park, 5810 156th Ave. N.E.
- Aug. 31 – Farrel-McWhirter Park, 19545 Redmond Rd.
- Sept. 28 – Westside Park, 5810 156th Ave. N.E.
- Oct. 26 – Viewpoint Park, 18440 N.E. 24th St.
