At Monday’s meeting, the Lake Washington School District Board of Directors approved a temporary boundary change for next fall that assigns new housing developments currently within the attendance boundaries of Norman Rockwell and Albert Einstein elementary schools to Horace Mann Elementary School. All three schools are located in Redmond.

The changes will be in effect through the 2015-16 school year. The bond measure currently on the Feb. 11 ballot would fund three new elementary schools in the district to accommodate growing enrollment.

Superintendent Dr. Traci Pierce made this recommendation because projections for enrollment at Rockwell and Einstein over the next two years exceed the maximum capacity of both schools, reads a press release. A temporary boundary committee had been asked to develop potential scenarios for moving students, which were shared with the public in an open house at Redmond Middle School on Jan. 22. The committee selected a preferred scenario, using the input they received at the open house. They presented that recommendation to Dr. Pierce on Jan. 23. Dr. Pierce in turn made her recommendation to the board, which unanimously adopted the recommendation.

The change will reassign all homes from the following new developments from Rockwell and Einstein to Mann:

From Rockwell to Mann: Betrozoff Plat, Brookside at the Woodlands, Chablis, Cryder, Greystone Manor, Strom Property, Verona Phase II, Vistas at Mondavio Phase II and other newly initiated developments.

From Einstein to Mann: Bear Creek Apartments, Bear Creek Cottages, Beuca Plat, Federspiel Property, Glenshire Division 2 and 3, Hawthorne Lane, Shadow Creek, Thorn Short Plat, Willowmere Park, Wyndham Ridge and other newly initiated developments.

Should any families with students move into the above developments during the current school year, they will be allowed to attend Mann to prevent a second transition in the fall.

These changes do not affect any students currently attending Rockwell or Einstein.
