HealthGrades ranked Evergreen Hospital Medical Center in the top five percent nationally in Stroke Care and the top 10 percent in Critical Care, GI services, General Surgery and Pulmonary Services. HealthGrades, which released the study today, analyzed outcomes data, including mortality and complication rates of 40 million Medicare patient visits to the United States’ 5,000 hospitals.

Evergreen has been ranked No. 1 in Washington for the treatment of stroke for two consecutive years and has received five specialty Excellence Awards including the Stroke Care Excellence Award, the Pulmonary Care Excellence Award, Gastrointestinal Care Excellence Award, Critical Care Excellence Award and the General Surgery Excellence Award in 2011.

Earlier this year, Evergreen was one of only two hospitals in Washington to be ranked in the top five percent of the nation for maternity care. It received the HealthGrades Maternity Care Excellence Award.

For the second year in a row, it was also named a Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence. Evergreen was the only King County hospital to receive the award which recognizes the top five percent of all hospitals in the country for clinical excellence.

Evergreen has demonstrated a longstanding history of outstanding clinical outcomes in Maternity Care. This is the seventh consecutive year HealthGrades gave the hospital five stars in maternity care. The medical center also received five star ratings for Treatment of Heart Failure, Spine Surgery, Back and Neck Surgery, Treatment of Stroke (for two consecutive years), Overall Pulmonary Services, Treatment of Pneumonia (for six consecutive years), GI Procedures and Surgeries, Treatment of GI Bleed (three consecutive years), Treatment of Pancreatitis (three consecutive years), Overall Critical Care, Treatment of Sepsis (two years), Treatment of Pulmonary Embolism, Treatment of Respiratory Failure (two years), Appendectomy (three years), and Maternity Care (seven years).
