Entertainer and social activist Harry Belafonte will serve as emcee at the grand opening of Áegis Living’s newest community, Áegis at Marymoor at 4585 W. Lake Sammamish Pkwy N.E. in Redmond.
The event will be from 1-4 p.m. and the public is invited to attend and tour the community. The first 100 people to arrive will receive an autographed copy of Belafonte’s memoir, “My Song.” City of Redmond Mayor John Marchione will also be at the event.
Guests will also be able to sample catering prepared by Áegis Living’s best-in-class chefs.
Close to 100 people will be hired to staff the community.
Redmond-based Áegis Living acquired the property in 2012, renovating the site from a shuttered assisted living community to what it is now.
Áegis at Marymoor, located adjacent to Marymoor Park, brings lush green scenery, a dog park, walking paths and open-air concerts to residents’ doorstep. The exterior of the new lodge-like community is anchored by a portico made of reclaimed wood from a century-old Douglas Fir beam, which was salvaged from a 1921 shipwreck of the Canadian Exporter.
The building’s interior has also seen a complete makeover. It features three levels of common areas with designer touches such as stainless steel appliances, stone countertops, rich cabinetry and stylish fixtures.
Welcoming residents home through the front doors is the grand parlor, which features a concierge, sofas and chairs and a fireplace.
The Man Cave is where residents can go to kick back with a cold beer, watch the game on a big-screen TV and play poker and darts.
Other amenities include a brain gym, with software programs to test memory, a tea room, barber shop and fitness area.
An outdoor courtyard for memory care residents features a garden and a campground, designed to rekindle memories of past camping trips. The site includes an Airstream trailer, camp chairs and all the makings for s’mores.
Áegis at Marymoor, as well as the soon-to-open Áegis on Madison, are among the seven new Western Washington communities Áegis Living is launching in the next three years.
