June is Ride Transit Month and represents a celebration of all transit riders across Washington state. In honor of Ride Transit Month, Go Redmond will be at local transit stops the morning of June 21 with music and free giveaways to thank riders for taking the bus.
“Even if you don’t personally ride transit, you are benefiting from others who do. Transit riders are reducing traffic and helping you get to work faster,” said Caroline Chapman, the Go Redmond program administrator.
According to the city, “Every day there are more than 10,000 transit boardings in Redmond, which is nearly double the number of daily boardings just 10 years ago. A full bus can fit 60 people who may normally be driving alone, freeing up an estimated seven lanes of traffic during peak hours. Transit riders are also helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. In 2016, Go Redmond users reduced 8 million pounds of C02 by choosing a more eco-friendly way to get to work. This helps meet the City of Redmond’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supports the Mayors National Climate Action Agenda.”
Go Redmond is available to provide transportation assistance to anyone living or working in Redmond. New transit riders can receive a free one-month ORCA bus pass or subsidies for vanpool fares to try a new way to commute to work. Go Redmond is also available to help plan routes or find commute options. More information on Ride Transit Month can be found at GoRedmond.com/transit.
