Construction activities in downtown Redmond will ramp up during the week of Aug. 29.
The Downtown Park, located on the east side of 161st Avenue Northeast between Redmond Way and Cleveland Street, will be closed to the public until the grand opening in the summer of 2018.
The first phase of the Downtown Park project involves earthwork to remove unsuitable soils. The soil at the site will be replaced with materials that will provide structural support for the eventual raised great lawn and rainwater infiltration necessary for the park. The earthwork is expected to be completed this fall. Following the peat removal, main park construction will begin in early 2017.
Also, the Two-Way Street Conversion project will transition to planned lane closures on the south side of Redmond Way down to one lane of traffic between 160th Avenue Northeast and 170th Avenue Northeast. The single lane on Redmond Way will be in effect beginning approximately Aug. 30 — 24 hours a day — through the fall.
In addition to daytime work, night work is anticipated to begin approximately Sept. 6, Monday through Thursday nights, for underground utility installation associated with the Two-Way Street Conversion project.
“Although residents and commuters should expect impacts on traffic from the park site soiling hauling, ongoing work on the Two-Way Street Conversion project and work on nearby private developments, we encourage the community to visit and support downtown businesses during construction and to participate in community events,” reads a statement on the city website.
