Suzan DelBene, the Democratic nominee for Washington’s 8th Congressional District, officially filed to run for office yesterday, according to a press release. DelBene, an experienced entrepreneur and business leader, is challenging three-term incumbent Congressman Dave Reichert.
“I’m running because the 8th district (which includes Redmond) deserves a representative who will support working families during this economic crisis, and who has first-hand experience tackling the economic issues facing this district and the country,” said DelBene.
DelBene has more than 20 years of experience as an entrepreneur and technology executive, and she wants to bring that experience to Congress. Her recently released economic plan lays out her plan to create jobs and get people back to work, restore trust and accountability in the financial system and protect consumers, and support the innovation that our region is known for.
“The economy is defining this year’s election, and it’s been the focus of my campaign for more than a year” said DelBene. “To solve today’s economic challenges, we need someone who understands the needs of small businesses and working families, not another career politician.”
DelBene has been campaigning for more than a year and has a lot to show for it.
• DelBene has received the nomination from the Washington State Democratic Party, and her campaign is one of only 13 candidates in the country to have earned a spot on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s competitive Red-to-Blue program for top challengers.
• She’s received major endorsements including support from EMILY’s List, NARAL Pro-Choice America, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, SEIU Washington State Council, and the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO.
• DelBene’s campaign has experienced strong financial support, and holds a six-figure cash-on-hand advantage over her opponent.
“I’ve spent the last year talking to people across Washington’s 8th Congressional District, and I would be honored to spend the coming years representing them in the other Washington,” concluded DelBene.
