Customer punches sword-wielding man twice in the face at restaurant | Police Blotter for Aug. 23-29

Tuesday, Aug. 29

Assault: Redmond police took an assault report at 10:43 p.m. in the 14800 block of Northeast 24th Street.

Officers responded to a call from a local restaurant that a samurai sword-wielding man was on the establishment’s patio and causing alarm to patrons. Officers arrived to find the man to be intoxicated, suffering from injuries to the head, and lolling on the ground next to his sword and a mostly empty bottle of whisky.

Witnesses told officers the armed man had been chopping the restaurant’s wooden fence with his sword and had been agitated and verbally abusive to customers. When one of the patrons approached the suspect in an attempt to mollify him, the suspect swung his sword at him in a threatening manner. The customer was able to jump out of the way of the weapon and subsequently punched the suspect twice in the face. The suspect received aid and was transported to the hospital. Possible charges are still pending.

Monday, Aug. 28

Robbery: Redmond police took a robbery report at 9:49 p.m. in the 18100 block of Northeast 95th Street.

Two suspects robbed a man at a Redmond apartment complex. The victim had gone to meet two women he had met online in the parking lot of the apartments. His new acquaintances got in the victim’s vehicle and suggested he drive further into the complex. After parking the vehicle where directed, two male suspects approached the vehicle and demanded the victim’s personal belongings and threatened to stab him. The victim was not injured and an initial search for the suspects in the area was unsuccessful.

Sunday, Aug. 27

Assault: Redmond police took an assault report at 11:57 a.m. in the 7000 block of 148th Avenue Northeast. Officers responded to reports of a fight between two men during a soccer game. During the altercation, one man struck the other in the head with a chain. The suspect fled the area and the victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Saturday, Aug. 26

Theft: Redmond police took a report of a theft of a motor vehicle at 10:19 a.m. in the 6600 block of 141st Place Northeast. Officers responded to a report of a vehicle stolen from the victim’s driveway sometime overnight. No suspects are identified at this time.

Friday, Aug. 25

Car prowl: Redmond police took a car-prowl report at 1:31 p.m. in the 17500 block of Northeast 88th Place. The victim stated that tools and personal items had been stolen from his vehicle while it was parked in front of his residence.

Thursday, Aug. 24

Assault: Redmond police took an assault report at 4:14 p.m. in the 9800 block of Willows Road. The victim called the police department to report being groped by a co-worker.

Wednesday, Aug. 23

Vandalism: Redmond police took a vandalism report at 8:52 a.m. in the 17100 block of Northeast 80th Street. A caller reported a vandalized car that had apparently had its windows smashed with rocks. No suspect information was available.
