Crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) have begun work on a project to repave nearly four miles of State Route 520 between Interstate-405 in Bellevue and West Lake Sammamish Parkway in Redmond.

As part of the $9.4 million project, crews will also replace the approaches to five concrete bridges on SR 520. Crews will remove deteriorating asphalt and install 10 new concrete slabs to smooth the transition from the asphalt roadway to the concrete bridges.

“This work will extend the lifespan of the freeway and give drivers a safer, smoother ride,” said Lorena Eng, WSDOT regional administrator. “This project will also boost the economy by employing nearly 100 workers.”

In addition to workers employed by the prime contractor, Granite Construction, this project will indirectly support workers employed at 17 companies, including 16 in Washington state.

Crews will reduce eastbound SR 520 at 130th Avenue Northeast to one lane nightly through Thursday, March 5. Crews will close one lane at 9 p.m. and a second lane at 11 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning.

Crews will reduce traffic to two lanes on eastbound SR 520 at 130th Avenue Northeast from 9 p.m. Friday, March 6 to 5 a.m. Monday, March 9. During the closures, crews will replace part of the approaches to the 130th Avenue Northeast overpass with new concrete slabs.

Drivers can expect six to eight weekends in March and April when SR 520 will be reduced to one or two lanes. Nighttime closures will continue through August.
