The City of Redmond will host a facilitated workshop beginning the public process for the rewriting of the zoning code from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26 at Redmond City Hall, 15670 NE 85th Street.

This workshop is for participants to tell city staff about the challenges experienced with the current code and elements or characteristics desired in the new code.

This rewrite is a multi-year effort to overhaul the zoning code, known as the Redmond Community Development guide (RCDG). While the RCDG has been modified over the years, it has not received a thorough rewrite since 1978. This rewrite is necessary to achieve greater clarity, conciseness and usability, while maintaining the goals and vision the city has adopted in its Comprehensive Plan.

The first phase, begun last month and ending in June, includes early citizen and stakeholder input to identify the current code’s strengths and weaknesses, develop a series of methods by which to rewrite the code and choose the preferred method. Phase two, the actual rewrite of the code will begin this summer with the final document adopted in spring 2011.
