On June 21, the City of Redmond will participate in Make Music, a free celebration of music around the world.
Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 700 cities in 120 countries.
This year, Redmond will participate in Make Music Day by hosting an event in Downtown Park as part of the Moving Art Center season and in partnership with the Old Fire House Teen Center.
Performances will take place from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
“We’re excited to bring this international day of music making to Redmond and encourage everyone to find their inner musician,” said Mayor John Marchione. “Make Music Day is one way we focus on the importance of the arts and culture in our community.”
Make Music is open to anyone who wants to participate. All types of musicians are welcome to share their music with the community. The festival is free and open to the public.
Performances will be featured on the Moving Art Center stage at the Downtown Park. Celebration attendees can try out new instruments at the School of Rock booth and will even have the opportunity to make instruments. The evening will end with a community rhythm circle lead by the Seattle World Percussion Society. More event details can be found at www.redmond.gov/arts.
