The City of Redmond will receive $3.3 million for transportation improvements via action this week by the Puget Sound Regional Council (PSRC).

The funding will help construct pedestrian improvements on Cleveland Street from Redmond Way to 164th Avenue Northeast.

“Helping communities secure federal transportation funding is one of the key roles of the PSRC,” said PSRC President and Kitsap County Commissioner Josh Brown. “This project rose to the top on its merits and cannot only deliver improvements for the future but help grow jobs in the near term.”

PSRC develops policies and coordinates decisions about regional growth, transportation and economic development planning within King, Pierce, Snohomish and Kitsap counties. The Council is composed of more than 80 entities, including all four counties, cities and towns, ports, state and local transportation agencies and tribal governments within the region.

In 2012, PSRC will select projects for the roughly $400 million in federal funds the region is expected to receive over the next few years.
