City of Redmond to host open house on 152nd Avenue Northeast, key corridor in future Overlake Village

Did you know that by 2030, new development in Overlake Village, Overlake’s retail district, will support up to 5,500 residential units and over 4 million square feet of office and retail space? The City of Redmond will host a public open house from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24 at Redmond City Hall, 15670 NE 85th St., to share ideas about the future for a key corridor in Overlake Village, 152nd Avenue Northeast.

With Sound Transit’s plans to locate the East Link light rail in Overlake, there is the potential for 152nd Avenue Northeast to become one of the most unique, signature streets in the city.

The community’s vision for 152nd Avenue Northeast is a busy and vibrant corridor with a distinctive character and lively pedestrian environment. It is expected to become the heart of Overlake Village, supported by multi-modal transportation options, special streetscapes, and public open spaces.

Integrated stormwater facilities, parks, urban pathways and green spaces will become the connective fabric of Overlake Village, meeting the needs of future growth in this area and reinforcing the vision for the neighborhood to become a great place to live, work and play.

“This corridor will become a hub of activity and a true community place in this important urban center,” said Don Cairns, transportation services division manager for the City of Redmond.

City staff, study consultants, and area stakeholders will be on hand to show conceptual designs for 152nd Avenue Northeast and gather community feedback. A second public meeting later this spring will give residents and area business owners the opportunity to comment on preferred alternatives for the corridor.
