City of Redmond to feature community events for National Preservation Month

As part of National Preservation Month in May and the "Discovering America's Hidden Gems" program, the City of Redmond is offering the community an opportunity to connect through the city's historic places.

As part of National Preservation Month in May and the “Discovering America’s Hidden Gems” program, the City of Redmond is offering the community an opportunity to connect through the city’s historic places.

The city will feature architectural and preservation experts on May 14 from 5:30-7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, located at 15670 N.E. 85th St., for a discussion of adaptive reuse including sustainable, technical and architectural aspects of historic structures, green building programs such as LEED, various incentives available to landmark properties and Old Town’s relationship to Redmond’s economic vitality.

Starting May 6, the Downtown Historic Walking Tours return for another season with local historian Tom Hitzroth with the Redmond Historical Society providing narrative tours of downtown’s historic buildings.

On May 24, the City of Redmond and King County will co-host the annual John D. Spellman awards ceremony from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center auditorium, located at 16600 N.E. 80th St. Redmond will receive a John D. Spellman award on behalf of the city’s historic preservation activities such as the 2010-11 restoration of the Anderson Park picnic shelter.
