Hank Margeson
Years on City Council: 8
Position: 3
Why are you running for Redmond City Council?
The primary reason I’m running is to serve the residents of Redmond. I owe the honor of elected office to the residents, and my primary duty is to understand their needs and seek ways local government can meet those needs. In addition, Redmond has made great strides toward implementing our vision of a community of connected neighborhoods with vibrant urban centers. It is time to finish what we’ve started.
What does Redmond mean to you?
Redmond is my chosen home. I chose to settle here, raise a family, invest in my community, make lifelong friends and serve my community.
What are some of the issues in and around the city that you are most concerned about and why?
The city is struggling with growing pains. Like other communities, we have challenges with traffic, crime, visible homelessness and affordable housing. Of those, the most visible is traffic. While we can’t solve all our traffic issues internally, there are steps the city needs to take to alleviate traffic headaches within our city. At the same time, we need to have a strong voice in the region so that we’re allocated our fair share of Metro service and we see Sound Transit East Link Light Rail make its way to Overlake in 2023 and to downtown shortly thereafter. We also need to maintain our sense of community while welcoming new residents to our community.
What are your goals for this upcoming term on council?
The primary goal involves implementing a local senior bus service in partnership with King County Metro, ensuring that 10 percent of residential developments include affordable housing, developing an inclusive budget that reflects the input from the community, engaging the community in a conversation regarding future capital project needs and how to fund them and overseeing the continued implementation of our vision for downtown and Overlake.
