The Redmond Police Department continues to investigate what caused a car to swerve off the road Saturday night and into a vacant Redmond home, hitting a gas line and igniting a fire.

The 62-year-old driver of the 1997 Lexus sedan said she was having car troubles before it struck the house at the corner of Northeast 148th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 61st Way, according to police spokesman Jim Bove.

The driver, a Redmond woman, was not injured, but was transported to Evergreen Hospital for precautionary purposes.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor and Bove said the driver has been cooperative and submitted to a voluntary blood draw. Bove said the Redmond Police Traffic Unit is investigating if speed was a factor or any medications were involved.

The home was engulfed with flames when firefighters from the Redmond Fire Department responded but the fire was quickly extinguished. The home is vacant but firefighters did a search to verify that it was empty, Bove said.

“We’re very lucky that nobody was in the house,” said Bove.

Part of 148th Avenue Northeast was closed for approximately two hours while Redmond police and Redmond, Bellevue, and Kirkland fire departments responded. Northbound lanes of 148th Ave Northeast were also closed from the 5600 block to the 6200 block during the investigation but reopened just before midnight Saturday night.
