Would you like to sample Cambodian food and hear more about The Overlake School in Pailin, Cambodia?
Reserve your place at the Cambodian Banquet, set for 6:30-8 p.m. May 30 at The Overlake School’s Campus Center, 20301 NE 108th St., Redmond. RSVP by May 26 for the catered meal, at cambodiabanquet@gmail.com. Tickets are $13 each.
The dinner is hosted by Overlake students who traveled to Cambodia for a Global Service Project during Project Week in April.
The menu will include salad with shrimp, spicy wings, tofu curry, stir-fried noodles (with seafood or tofu), lemongrass beef, steamed rice and dessert.
The evening will also include a video about the most recent trip. Proceeds from the banquet will go toward as-yet undesignated capital improvements at the Cambodia school.
The relationships between the two schools began in 2001, when the Redmond independent school raised funds to construct a new school building for an existing elementary school in Pailin, Cambodia. The Overlake School in Cambodia remains a primary global service focus for the Redmond school, which pays for the computer and English language instruction there, as well as the education of specific girls in need. A couple of visits there by small groups of students, teachers and staff since 2001 have resulted in additional improvements, including electrical wiring, a computer lab connected to a satellite dish, a filtration system for student drinking water and on the most recent trip, the purchase and construction of playground equipment.
