Two Redmond residents have recently earned their Eagle ranking with the Sammamish Trails District of Boy Scouts of America.

Brady Johnston of Crew 596 on Union Hill and Cullen Scott Owen of Crew 597 on Novelty Hill are among six new Eagle Scouts in their district.

To earn the Eagle rank, a scout must complete a minimum of 21 merit badges demonstrating community service, leadership and scouting values.

For more than 100 years Eagle Scouts have come to be recognized as responsible young men who have developed the qualities of leadership, self-reliance and fitness. The Eagle Scout rank carries with it a special significance, not only in Scouting, but also in higher education, business and community serving organizations. The award is a performance-based achievement whose standards have been well maintained over the years.

Today, less than six percent of all young people who enter scouting earn the honor of Eagle Scout. To earn the Eagle Scout rank, the highest advancement rank in scouting, a Boy Scout must fulfill requirements in the areas of leadership, service and outdoor skills.
